DOMAIN
HISTORY
The Domain Agency was founded in
the 1950's by Doug and Faith Mains. Their first client was The Chapel
of the Air, the daily radio broadcast of Faith's brother, John D.
Jess. During its years as an agency Domain served a growing number of
broadcasters. Programs born with Domain as their agency include Focus
on the Family with Dr. James Dobson, Josh McDowell Radio, The Phyllis
Schlafly Report, Key Life with Steve Brown, and Turning Point
television with Dr. David Jeremiah.
Domain entered the audio cassette
duplication business when the cassette industry was in its infancy.
An article in Screen Magazine featuring the Domain studios states
that they are "the oldest ongoing audio recording operation in
the Chicago area - if not the midwest." More recently Domain has
become a supplier of Compact Disc Services.
Shortly after purchasing Domain
from its founders in 1981, Edward Elliott, a current partner, stated
that the company's objective would be to "specialize in spoken
word audio production and duplication. Most studios specialize in
music. Domain will focus on spoken word." To further enhance the
company's value to its clients, Domain offers turn-key service.
Clients may choose from any studio, duplication, packaging or
fulfillment option, or may enlist Domain to create the entire product
from writing or condensation and package design through studio
production, duplication/replication, packaging and fulfillment.
In 1993 Elliott sold the agency.
Domain now focuses its radio placement services on public service
announcements and on daily and weekly sustaining (free) broadcasts.
In 1995 David Morris, now
President of Domain, became a partner in the business. Mr. Morris
manages the company. Mr. Elliott's primary role is marketing, sales
and new business development.
Edward
Elliott Chairman
His primary role at the company
is marketing, sales and new business development. Clients have
appreciated his gift for helping them break into new markets in
creative ways. He has been instrumental in developing campaigns for
clients such as Josh McDowell ("Why Wait"), starting new
broadcasts including "Key Life" with Steve Brown and
bringing new products to market.
In 1981 Edward Elliott purchased
Domain from its founders, Doug and Faith Mains. Before acquiring
Domain, Elliott worked at two publishing companies, David C. Cook and
Tyndale House. At Tyndale he opened a major new market for
inspirational books and Bibles by marketing them through mass
retailers including K-Mart, Sears and J. C. Penney. While there he
also gained extensive experience in international markets.
Elliott serves on several boards
including National Religious Broadcasters, Moody Alumni Association
and Questscope (involved in development in the Middle East).
Edward and his wife, Virginia,
have a married son and two grand-children.
